 The drystone walling stone is flat, ensuring the stone sits tight, making it easier and quicker to build  tighter walls, faster.  This is especially important with the larger drystone walls where the quality of the stone literally stands by itself, dry, without any mortar.

Our walling stone is very dense, with marble like qualities, making it resistant to weathering, and frost.  The garden walls and estate dry stone walls will be there for generations. 

Build well, use good craftsmen, as it will be there for hundreds of years.

Pricing

We pride ourselves on offering a range of natural walling stone.

For smaller walls, pillars, or where there is a backing block, there is the garden walling.  There is a choice of 7 inch or 10 inch as required.

For larger free standing traditional dry stone walls, and retaining walls with banks of earth behind them, there is the drystone walling, with large through stones, base stones, and coping stones, as well as smaller stone included within the mix. 

This drystone will have a wide range of sizes, going upto about 18 inches or so.  This range of sizes not only helps with the stability of the drystone wall, but also enables versatility within a project to build in stone steps, pillars, arches, and other features.

The quality of our stone is second to none, and that is why we have been used at world class projects, including the Newt, near Bruton in Somerset.

The quality of the drystone walling stone is of critical importance to the quality and longevity of the drystone wall.

The drystone needs to have:

• Strength to last hundreds of years.
• Good faces providing the flat finish on the outside of the drystone wall - this looks aesthetically pleasing, as well as helping to spill the rain and help prevent larger mammals from climbing it.
• Large through stones.  These larger pieces of drystone go from one side of the wall to the other, binding the two sides of the wall together.
• Flat top and bottom of each piece of drystone, so that the stone sits tight flat, helping to create stability.  
• Base stones - these need to be large, and flat, providing a stable foundation for the wall to be built on.
• Capping stones - providing weight through the centre of the wall, and binding (pinning) the smaller drystone at the top of the wall.

 Drystone walling is a traditional craft where natural stone walls are built with minimal or no use of mortar. All is needed is a wide range of well dressed hard drystone, craftsmanship, skill, and the use of large through stones create a stable solid long lasting wall. This technique results in drystone walls that are not only strong, but also blend seamlessly with the natural environment.
