Drystone walling

 We supply a range of premium drystone walling stone known for its ease of use, strength, and natural beauty.  Garden walls built of our drystone will add structure, presence and beauty to your garden as well as your wider property.

Our drystone is very dense, with marble like qualities, making it resistant to weathering, and frost.   

 The walling stone is naturally flat, ensuring the stone sits tight, making it easier and quicker to build  tighter walls, faster.  This is especially important with the larger drystone walls where there is little or no mortar, and the stability of the wall is dependent on the quality of the stone, and the craftsmanship of the waller.

Use quality drystone, and use good craftsmen, as your garden walls will be there for hundreds of years.

We pride ourselves on offering a range of natural walling stone.

Garden walling - smaller garden walls or with backing block

For smaller garden walls, or small pillars, or where there is a backing block, there is the garden walling.  There is a choice of 7 inch or 10 inch as required.  Mortar with lime will need to be used for stability.

Drystone walling - larger free standing walls

For larger free standing (mortar does not need to be used) traditional dry stone walls, and retaining walls with banks of earth behind them, there is the drystone walling stone.  Within the drystone, there are large through stones, base stones (for the foundations), and coping stones (for capping the wall off), as well as smaller stone included within the mix. 

This drystone will have a wide range of sizes, going upto about 18 inches or so.  This range of sizes not only helps with the stability of the drystone wall, but also enables versatility within a project to build in stone steps, pillars, arches, and other features.

The quality of our stone is second to none, and that is why we have been used at world class projects, including the Newt, near Bruton in Somerset.

The quality of the drystone walling stone is of critical importance to the quality and longevity of the drystone wall.  The wall's strength is from the craftsmanship, utilising gravity.

• Coping stone to spill the rain and help prevent larger mammals from climbing it.
• Large through stones.  These larger pieces of drystone go from one side of the wall to the other, binding the two sides of the wall together.

• Flat top and bottom of each piece of drystone, so that the stone sits tight flat, helping to create stability.  
• Base stones - these need to be large, and flat, providing a stable foundation for the wall to be built on.
• Capping stones - providing weight through the centre of the wall, and binding (pinning) the smaller drystone at the top of the wall.
